Through the Eyes of Faith Pt. 2

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

“For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth life: so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.” (Jn 5:21)

“Isn’t it true what Scripture has said? Yes, on account of the merits of the saints and graces dispensed by the Son to whom he wills.”

The teachers and scholars ponder over what has been said.

“Is it not a coincidence that we are here on this night, united together, in this chamber to celebrate the wonderful work and the glory of Our Father? See the many faces around me, all distinct, from the land as far as the East is to the West. See the marvel of God’s plan in the economy of salvation. We are all united, men of different tribes, of different culture, and of different nationality; we are united in Our Lord, Jesus Christ. How beautiful is that? What can be more universal and all-encompassing than the mystical body of God?”

“Think of the angels in Heaven. They did not procreate; they did not have children. Yet, they are diverse and distinct from one another. They come in different ranks and they have different powers. They have different orders and come in different grace. Do you not think the Heavenly Father as the same plan for us?”

“We come in many different background, and we all are incorporated into Christ. Our parents or some distant relative converted to the Faith. This is what it means by the merits of the saints. Not one of you is here without the plan of God beforehand. He knew you before you were born. He brought your souls into existence to the fallen nature in a fallen world. Your parents provide the material form, God provide the spiritual.”

“Do not think that your human nature is by accident. Our mothers conceived us in sin, but God has made us whole again in the glory of His Son. Some of you, as the saints have been blessed, may have been sanctified in the womb like John the Baptist, but all are subject to the New Law in Baptism. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. We are the inheritance of God.”

“And now I turn to you teachers and scholars. Do you not understand how you have come about? How God has formed you? As high as the hierarchy of angels, so too will the kingdom of God on earth be in relation to the Church triumph. Do not think I do not know that your intelligence and your tempered human nature have been molded by God unto perfection. You are the keepers of the doctrine of Our Lord; you hold judgment over the kingdoms of the earth. The higher your office, the greater responsibility you have before God. You do not disappoint us in the lower ranks. We look up to you. Without the Faith, it is impossible to please Our Father. Without love in that Faith, it is impossible to be sanctified.”

“We were all barbarians before our ancestors converted. We were the vagabonds that walked the earth. We were the outcasts and the savages that roamed the land, without a country, without a title. No longer are we of the past man, but have become the new man in Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our lower human nature troubles us, but we are now motivated by the higher spiritual goods. We no longer judge others irrationally or harshly, but have become citizens of the New Law. Our moral conduct is based on the commandments of God. Our laws come from nature and revelation.”

“But, master, are we all equal then?”

“We were born unequal, but our earthly existence will come to an end, until the day of judgment comes. We are equal by the judgment of death, but our sanctity differs on different levels and in different areas. Our personal human nature correspond differently to the grace of God, as God gives us different tests and our temperament and personality are different. Everything is within the mystery of salvation. Some of us are more inclined to goodness than others, some of us have to learn from our mistakes. The merit is the same when we are victorious, but our happiness will depend on close we are like unto God.”

Through the Eyes of Faith

As I gaze out the windows with the eyes of faith, I see the beauty and magnificence of creation. I no longer see the present fallen world, but of the former, beautiful and perfection, it once held. No, it is not a direct and absolute vision, but a foretaste of a new earth and a new heaven that will come. Oh, the absolute serenity and peace in the joy and love of God! Time itself seems to slow down. No, time has become irrelevant.

The joy of salvation is here. The human senses have returned to the spiritual life. The soul has been restored. The spirit of the earth reawakens to greet him, and the whole of creation rejoices at the sight of a returned child of Adam. His father once held governance over it all, over the whole earth. He once walked in paradise with God.

The man-child has become as one of us, knowing good and evil, yet he does no evil. Oh, how the protection of God has made him invincible, from sickness to health, from corruption to incorruptibility. How glorified is man when he dwells in God!

I went up to the mountains and pray for 40 days and 40 nights. I fast so that my prayers may be heard by God. I am tempted by the devil and he seduces me to fall away from my faith. I contemplate the shortness of time and the longevity of eternity.

I walk into the city, on to the street down the road, and I see people go about, to and fro, mindful of earthly things, running into obstacles, being stopped on the way by thieves and robbers, taking from them the treasures on the path that leads to God.

I step onto the boat, and sail out to the river. I look at the natural beauty which surrounds me and I give praise to God for having created everything for my delight: “Almighty Father, it is right and just to give you praise and thanks for the wonder of creation. Having created the earth and placing Adam in it to tend and shepherd the whole world, to the glory and perfection of your Name, that you may be glorified in the son of Adam, who, once again, is master over the element and the entire earth, I perform miracles.”

I walk on the water, having faith before me and security in the hands of God. I accomplished. I call to the fishes and they gather. They listen and delight in being in the presence of the son of God and they recognize their master. “God has created you for me and you are the reminder of the love of God for his children. How can you understand without the knowledge of God? You can only recognize and acknowledge the master when he comes to you. Rejoice, man has been restored to perfection and you are delighted to be in his presence.”

I walk back onto the shore, and into the city. I see the lepers and the dying, the sick and the diseased. I have pity on the children of man. “Adam, look at your children and the suffering in the world. Through faith and love in me, I will perform miracles. “Arise and walk, do not be discouraged for the salvation of God is at hand and the kingdom of God is here.” I stand before the tomb of one and announce: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, says the Lord, awake from your sleep!”

I continue down the road and I see a scattered group of sheep, without a shepherd, without a guide. I am taken with compassion. “You wish to be of one fold and of the shepherd, how the Lord has struck the shepherd and you are dispersed!”

Possessed Populations

Dear Michael Brown,

I read with great interest your headline article today in regards to certain places which seem to be “cursed” or which seem to have a high amount of evil energies present.

I am fortunate to live in a city – San Francisco – that is literally dotted with beautiful old Catholic churches and almost daily take advantage of this grace by visiting one or another for my daily private devotions, and Mass if I am able to. However, this once very Catholic city, founded by the Franciscan missionaries in the 1700’s with the old Mission San Francisco de Asis, followed by the growth in the 1800’s and 1900’s of numerous parishes and the raising up of many beautiful churches is no longer the city it was once in decades long past. Indeed, our churches stand almost as veritable gravestones marking what once was a very Catholic city with a lively faith. Unfortunately, several of these churches have been closed after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, due to “damage” or inability of the Archdiocese to raise funds for seismic retrofitting. A few have been sold, and are now Buddhist temples. Others sit, empty. The Archbishop wants them destroyed, and sold, but a few are historical landmarks and so now sit empty, untouched, and inaccessible. It seems such a sad waste to me. One of these churches is that of St. Joseph, whose golden towers I can see from my window as I type now – a church that Bishop Fulton Sheen came very often to preach at.

In any event, I transgress. I wanted to tell you of some interesting occurrences which happened to me only yesterday. I was on my way to the historic church of Sts. Peter and Paul to do my daily devotions, and as it was quite a warm day I stopped in a coffee shop for some refreshment before heading to the church. As I waited in line, there was a woman seated at a table across from where was standing who kept looking at me and giving dirty looks. I didn’t think much of it, nor did I make much eye contact since such odd people are not uncommon in this city and is something one is used to and briskly ignores. However, this continued as I waited in line, and her sneers seemed directed only at me, even though there were several people in the shop and several people in line. Again, I did not pay attention – but as I got closer in the line I noticed on her finger was a ring with a pentagram on it. I was not wearing any sacramentals that were visible, nor was there anyway that she could have known I was a Catholic headed to church. However, it seems she sensed something – hence her reaction. This was odd.

So, I went to church, did my prayers, then left. As I walked downtown, a woman was walking towards my direction as I walked down the street, pushing a cart. She nearly ran into me, but again I did not pay attention – however, as she did, she said in a voice almost inhuman (and surely not a woman’s) the following words directed to me: “DEAD….DEAD”. Again, crazies are common in this city, so I brushed it off, but only minutes later a small group of pigeons on the street nearly flew into my head – seemingly directed straight at me. This was not common behavior, as they usually scurry along since they are used to people, especially downtown. I was reminded of the swine in Scripture who were possessed and jumped off the cliff….

Yesterday I started praying the chaplet of the Holy Face, which I have not done in quite some time. Are you and your readers familiar with the Holy Face devotion? It is very important for our times. I am convinced that perhaps Satan was upset with this, hence these strange occurrences to me….

Fr. Malachi Martin, whom I knew, once told me that large cities such as New York, San Francisco, etc which are generally cesspools of vice and iniquity have large populations of possessed souls – a certain inherit possession occurring by living a continuous life of vice combined with no desire of repentance or amendment…

Anyway, sorry this was longer than I expected. Just wanted to share my experience.

In Jesus and Mary,

The ‘Attempted’ Destruction of the Catholic Church

Monday, February 15th, 2010

St. Joseph's Church on the corner of Howard & 10th.

I sit here, gazing out the window in my living room on the fifth floor of my building in San Francisco, edified as usual by the twin golden domes of what was once a great parish in this once very Catholic city – the church of St. Joseph, a church which Bishop Fulton Sheen himself preached at more than once attracting throngs of the faithful. It rests now, empty, surrounded by fences at the intersection of 10th and Howard Street, in an area which is now very close to and known for a gross ‘leather fest’ every year just about this time.

The handwritten city sign on the fence outside describes the owner as ‘Archbishop of San Francisco’. Not the Archdiocese, but the Archbishop himself. The same man who gave Communion to drag queens dressed as nuns at an openly ‘gay’ Catholic Church in the Castro of San Francisco – a recognized parish of the Archdiocese which, although their very gracious acts of charity do indeed help many sufferers of AIDS – continues to participate in disgusting, and at times even blasphemous festivals in the Castro district.

Previous to the current Archbishop, the former Archbishop of SF by name of Levada (who now resides in Rome by order of Ratzinger so he cannot be extradited to the U.S. on accounts of knowledge of child molestation and was made Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith by Ratzinger himself) wanted to sell it – perhaps to build condos in this area which is in close proximity to much development in high-end residential structures; his plans intercepted, however, by a state law making the exterior of the church a historical landmark.

And so it sits. Beautiful. A silent, yet remarkable monument to what once was a great Catholic city – and a reminder to myself of all that has happened in the Church since even before Vatican II – now barren and empty, yet still visible, although not as prominent and sometimes almost secretly, remaining tall and firm.

During the past many years, several traditionalists, some of them quite prominent, have referred to the “destruction” of the Catholic Church. While this is a deeply held sentiment amongst the true faithful in these last times, I propose that we refuse to refer to the situation in the Church as the “destruction” of It – for it has not, and will not ever be destructed. It may be diminished in numbers, but never destructed. I believe that by re-affirming this principle amongst ourselves as the remnant true faithful, we shall progress mentally, spiritually and I dare affirm even powerfully. For it is classic psychology to know that those who believe that one’s belief system has been “destructed” will inevitably end up in sorrow and self-pity (much of which I have seen, and I am sure many of you have seen as well among certain groups and individuals over the years).

It was more of a subtle ‘coup d’etat’ than a destruction – a subtle, yet inevitably recognizable ambush. Webster’s Dictionary gives the definition of ‘coup d’etat as follows: “a sudden and decisive action in politics, esp. one resulting in a change of government illegally or by force”. Not one traditionalist will argue with this in terms of the events of Vatican II and even the Bugnini changes to certain rites during the time of Pius XII.

It is, again, always important to remember that in the history of the world, in any time of resistance, or a coup d’etat, there has always been a resistance – and so we remain today, resisting and holding on to that which we know is true and always has been true.

Let us then not dwell on what the demons of hell have been able to achieve over the past 40+ years, for the same occurred, albeit not as horribly, during the times of Martin Luther which gave rise to the plethora of false ‘Christian’ (Protestant) “churches” and sects over time.

We are in different times now, where the devil himself dares to deceive the elect itself, as prophesied by Our Lady at La Salette, and was clarified by by the revelations received by Pope Leo XIII which resulted in the propagation of that powerful prayer to the Archangel St. Michael.

This is nothing new, it is just different. As the Counter-Reformation flourished in Europe during those times of trial, let the new and more illustrious Counter-Revolution in these times progress – these very times where the enemies are not only the visible enemies of the Church itself, but include many priests and bishops who who indeed wait, and do not hesitate to pounce upon souls and attack them with their dogmas of damnation Beware the wolves in sheep clothing, as it is said in the Gospels. These very wolves, which in our times have risen to the very heights of Rome.

Let us have hope then, faith and confidence in Holy Mother the Church and Christ Her Head. This Church, the only true Church which shall last forever, until the end of time.
